John McClane’s mythical plastic gun has finally arrived. Defense Distributed has test a 99% plastic firearm. The firing pin being the exception; and for that they utilized a nail from a hardware store.

Please note, before you get up in arms, today’s X-ray machines and scanners will detect a plastic gun. That is because such scanners detect hardness, and plastic is still fairly hard/dense.  While a detector which only detects metal may not succeed in detection of such a firearm.

One does have to love how the media describes the founder of Defense Distribute: “Wilson, a law student at the University of Texas and a radical libertarian and anarchist”.

Mr. Wilson chose to name this first generation Wiki Weapon the “Liberator”, a tip of the hat to a cheap WWII one-shot firearm that was made by the Allies and dropped in enemy territory to aid insurgents.

There is some solid advice here!


Owning  firearms for home defense is a responsibility that one should not take lightly.  Here are a few things to remember about your home defense firearms.

  • Make sure you are properly trained on the use of your home defense firearms.  Make sure you are proficient on loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions, acquiring your target and go to the range regularly and practice, practice, practice.
  • Along with range time mentally visualize the process for loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions and aquiring your target.  Visualization is an important aspect of training.
  • Make sure you are properly licensed as needed.
  • Never ever under any circumstances leave a loaded firearm unattended.
  • Store your bulk ammo and your firearms in seperate locations. 
  • Keep your firearms secure and well hidden when not in use.
  • This point will raise debate as many people keep their home defense handgun loaded and on their nightstand when they go to bed.  I do…

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you see military helicopters flying low over Minneapolis, don’t be alarmed. They’re just training in an urban environment.

The U.S. Special Operations Command will be conducting exercises until the beginning of September. This week they’re using helicopters, including Black Hawks.

They’re not giving out their exact training locations because they don’t want crowds to gather.

But you may get a glimpse of the helicopters flying low between 7 p.m. and midnight.
